Gerald L. Curtis :: One of the problems
that has resulted from the restrictive election law in Japan is that
it has made it very difficult for candidates for public office to do
the kinds of things, especially involving new technologies and the mass
media, that have become a commonplace in virtually every other country.
So there's a lot of talk in Japan, discussion in Japan, about the need
to loosen the election laws to enable candidates to have more freedom
in terms of their election campaigns. But there is great concern that
doing so would create unfair advantages for the more wealthy candidates
from stronger political parties. |
