and teaching of Chinese in secondary and elementary schools in the United
States; 2) encourage effective articulation among Chinese Language educators
across the divides of elementary, secondary, and college level instruction;
and 3) provide a national network for the exchange of information, ideas
and curricular resources related to the teaching of Chinese language and

Midwest Chinese Teachers Alliance is dedicated to mission to promote
and develop teaching and learning the Chinese language and culture in
all schools: public and private; at all level, preschool, elementary,
high school, college, adult education, and heritage language programs.
National
Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages: CouncilNet

The CouncilNet, the online network for organizations representing
the less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) in the United States, is designed
to address the communication and information needs of the members of the
National Council of Organizations of Less Commonly Taught Languages (the
Council), as well as those of other organizations, institutions, and individuals
interested in the teaching and learning of the LCTLs in the United States.
CouncilNet supports the Council in its efforts to address the issue of
national capacity in the LCTLs by facilitating communications among member
organizations and with the governmental, private, heritage, and overseas
sectors of the language community. Its ultimate goal is to increase the
collective impact of LCTL constituencies on America's ability to communicate
with peoples from all parts of the world.

The Association of Teachers of Japanese is an international non-profit
organization of scholars, teachers, and students of Japanese language,
literature, and linguistics that works to promote academic work in the
field and to broaden and deepen knowledge and appreciation of Japan and

Institute for the Teaching of Japanese

ITJ offers Internet-assisted professional development courses to elementary,
middle, and high school teachers of Japanese. Courses combine self-managed
learning materials with the guidance of an on-line instructor and guest
specialists. By using a computer connected to the Internet, students can
work at their own pace while learning in an interactive environment with
fellow students and a learning facilitator.

Japan Foundation Los Angeles Office & Language Center

The Japan Foundation Los Angeles Language Center provides assistance
throughout the United States for Japanese language education, especially
for teachers of the Japanese language at the pre-collegiate levels, and
conducts the annual Japanese Language Proficiency Test in cooperation
with Columbia University, University of Chicago, and University of Hawaii
at Manoa.

Council of Japanese Language Teachers (NCJLT)

The National Council Japanese Language Teachers is a group of teachers
and other professionals interested in teaching and improving the quality
of Japanese teaching in American secondary schools. NCJLT's goals include
actively promoting the teaching and learning of Japanese at the secondary
level, providing a network for exchanging information and ideas about
Japanese teaching, and improving opportunities and resources for Japanese
teachers.
Northeast Council
of Teachers of Japanese (NECTJ)
The Northeast Council of Teachers of Japanese (NECTJ), formerly the Northeast
Association of Secondary Teachers of Japanese (NEASTJ), is a non-profit
organization dedicated to improving the teaching of Japanese language
at the pre-collegiate level throughout the northeastern United States.The
NECTJ covers not only secondary education but also a wider range of levels
including elementary education for children of Japanese heritage.
