Guide to National Geography Standards and China's Geography [Teacher's Guide]
This unit provides teachers with a brief introduction to the National Geography Standards and suggests a list of possible topics for approaching China's geography.

China's Geography [Reading/Activity]
This unit begins with a set of maps (general maps and outline maps), then divides the discussion of China's geography into four topical areas (Rivers, Borders, and Civilizations; Population and Agriculture; Geography and Regions; Political Divisions). The discussion refers to the maps and other visuals woven throughout the text. Suggested "Questions for Discussion" that can be used to guide students through the material in all four topics are grouped together at the end of the unit.

This reading for students accompanies the Population and Agriculture section of the above unit, "China's Geography."

Arteries of the Empire [Reading]
This reading for students discusses China's hydraulic (water control) system and important improvements over time in canal transport. The reading can be used in conjunction with the Rivers, Borders, and Civilizations section of the above unit, "China's Geography."

Ordering a Chinese Meal [Activity]
This exercise is designed to introduce students to Chinese cuisine and accompanies the Population and Agriculture section of the above unit, "China's Geography."

Food and Geography [Reading]
This reading for students discusses the relationship between geographic factors, food production, and cooking practices. Includes a note for teachers and discussion questions for students.

Appreciating Chinese Place Names [Activity]
This unit offers an explanation of Chinese place names and can be used in conjunction with the Student Exercise "What's in a Name?", in Teaching Unit "The Chinese Language."

Geography and Security Goals [Reading]
This unit explores how history and geography set the agenda for Chinese foreign policy. China's internal geography, regional geography, and the broader global context are discussed. Discussion questions are included.
