AFE-NCTA Course Guide

Accessing Courses/Simulcasts on Asiaforeducators.org

All courses and simulcast video presentations listed on this website are hosted at asiaforeducators.org — a Moodle-based online course website. First-time visitors must create an account at asiaforeducators.org and log in to access all materials.

After you have created your free account at asiaforeducators.org, you can enroll in any new courses or simulcasts being offered, as well as access all archived courses and simulcasts. Please note that Moodle will ask you whether you want to “enroll” in a course or simulcast even after it has ended. “Enrollment” in this case simply means signing up to access that archived course or simulcast.

Earning Professional Development Hours for INDEPENDENT STUDY

Teachers can earn professional development hours or viewing on-line video presentations on asiaforeducators.org by submitting written “teaching reflections” on upcoming, as well as archived, sessions.

2.5 hours can be earned for each simulcast session. The period for submission of teaching reflections is June 1 through July 15 each year.

Please submit your teaching reflections to the NCTA director for your state, included here .

Earning Professional Development Hours for CURRENT COURSES

Directions for earning credit are posted on the individual course websites and can be accessed after you enroll. Please note that credit hours cannot be earned for the archived courses posted on this website — these courses are available for resource reference only. Credit can be earned, however, for the many archived simulcast sessions on this website. Please see the directions under “Earning Professional Development Hours for Independent Study,” above.

NCTA Study Tour Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a NCTA-sponsored study tour, teachers must have completed requirements for a total of 30 professional development hours in NCTA-sponsored professional development programs.

For teachers who teach in one of the following states (Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas), these professional development hours can be earned through work on the simulcast modules and/or online independent study units on this website, attendance at face-to-face NCTA seminars, or other programs as specified by your state NCTA director, and/or a combination of these formats.

These requirements can be met over a period of years; they do not have to be met in one year. All requirements must be met, however, by February 1 of the year in which you apply for a study tour.

Prior participation in a NCTA-sponsored study tour disqualifies someone from participating in a second tour, unless the new tour is to a country not previously visited with NCTA.
